After achieving this qualification you are able to apply for Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status.

The Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training is an accredited qualification on the RQF framework, regulated by Ofqual.


This qualification comes with TQUK Level 5 diploma status. That means that it is independently accredited at a level of learning equivalent to Level 5 on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Who can study?

Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (DET) is suitable for tutors, trainers and FE teachers and adult or work-based training within public, private, or voluntary organisations. The diploma prepares trainees to teach in a variety of contexts and requires assessment of teaching practice and observation. Teaching practice is necessary in order to fulfil the qualification.


It can help meet a range needs for trainees, including:

Students will be required to have access to 100 hours of teaching practice whilst on the course and will be observed for a total of 8 hours throughout the course.



The course typically takes twelve to twenty-four months of study; however can be completed earlier or later than this.



Assessment of this qualification is based upon a portfolio of evidence and successful completion of course work assignments. Additionally, there is the requirement to be involved in 100 hours of teaching delivery with a minimum of 8 lessons observations.
